The Belles at the Forum

Naomi, Robert, Rosie and I had the privilege of seeing the favourite band of effeminate boys and ugly girls alike, Belle & Sebastian at The Forum on Saturday night, and I thought it was a pretty damn good show.

I didn’t see them last time, and I’ve been kicking myself since. So having secured tickets months in advance, I wanted to make sure we had a good spot. Knowing the Forum has a row of booths just beyond the main floor, Nao and I got there deliberately early to nab one.

After a counter meal at the Duke of Wellington, we joined a quickly forming line outside the theatre. Plaid and paisley abounded. A sea of scarves and argyle knee-high socks. Stockings with flat shoes, and peacoats as far as the eye could see.

I was expecting the set list to be saturated with material from the latest album, and while it’s a pretty fine album, I wanted to hear them play some old stuff too, but they came through with a fair comprimise, including The State I Am In and my favourite Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying.

The encore began with Stuart nearly breaking his neck climbing atop the decorative architecture beside the stage, which prompted the band to start playing Van Halen’s Jump.

Sorry about the crap quality of the video.

All in all, I’d have to say best show I’ve seen this year. Or last year.

Comments

No comments, eh? I’ve had more comments on my YouTube page.

For anyone interested the set list for the show can be found here.

hmm the cover of Jump is very entertaining! I’m not a huge fan of B&S, but hey I like a good cheesy cover ;)

Who were the support band/s?

I’m really annoyed that I missed tickets to Death Cab for Cutie, I get the feeling that would of been my gig of the year and last year…. hell maybe even next year! Oh well at least I got tickets for Dj Shadow next month.

Nao and I saw Death Cab about 2 years ago when they supported Something For Kate, and I seem to recall being quite impressed.
