As you may already know, I've been growing a moustache over the last month for Movember, and after a lot of heckling from my readership, the much anticipated 'moustache post' has finally arrived. At the beginning of the month I had every intention of taking a photo of my face every day, and putting together a little movie, so you could all witness the progress of my moustache. But November has been a very busy month for me, and the 'mo movie' is just one of many things that have fallen by the wayside recently. Try not to get upset about it. It's not you -- it's me.

I can however, muster up a photograph for you all, if you promise to head swiftly over to Movember.com.au, and enter my Rego number -- 5008, and sponsor this masterpiece of facial hair. It's all going to a good cause, and parting with a few dollars is surely worth witnessing my humiliation, walking around with this dead insect on my face!

Now, where was I? Ah, yes -- photographs, eh? Here you go...

It's not great -- but it's not bad for only four weeks growth, I reckon. Oh, shut up!

Last year, Movember raised $1.2 million, and this year they've blown that out of the water (good for them), and you can raise that even higher (good for you). Go on. Blow the dust of the old Visa card, and get clicking.

I've been 'off the grid' lately, and it wouldn't be fair to blame that solely on the lack of electricity/phone line/internet access. I've also been taking my time adjusting to the new routine. It didn't help that my first attempt at checking my personal email at work (during my lunchbreak, I might add) was met with an error message that seemed to indicate that not only was I unable to access my webmail URL, but my attempt to access said URL had been recorded and forwarded on to the IT department. My second day on the job.

Needless to say, I'm a little apprehensive, so for the time being, I'll keep my blogging outside business hours.

Edit: OK, I wanted to add more to this topic but couldn't really be arsed starting a new post, so I'm tacking it onto the end of this one.

I am a semi-regular reader of Kevin Smith's blog My Boring Ass Life, so when he mentioned there, that he would be visiting Melbourne when his new film Clerks II opened on August 31, I made a note of the date in my phone.

Then I read in Hit that the Melbourne premiere will be at The Astor on August 25, with Mr. Smith in attendance, and that tickets are available from Ticketmaster. I eagerly jumped on over to Ticketmaster, only to discover tickets had sold out. It seems that although Hit had mentioned it on Thursday as though it was recent news, and despite my existing membership to Ticketmaster's newsletter, neither had alerted me to the fact that tickets had not only gone on sale on Monday, but that there was also a pre-sale on Sunday. I didn't stand a chance.

We rang Ticketmaster numerous times to check for cancellations, to no avail. I trawled eBay, but was outbid by an incomprehensible margin by some lunatic who paid $404 for two tickets!

If you haven't guessed by the title of this post yet -- I didn't get to see it. Bad publicity, bad venue, bad timing -- it's everybody's fault but mine! I might do an update to this post when I actually get round to seeing the film. Or not.

On the positive side though, I did get a new job, and house, and it's my birthday in a couple of weeks, so two out of three ain't bad.

McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

Today's solution was a Double-Quarter Pounder (shouldn't this be called a Half-Pounder?) which is basically a Quarter Pounder with two patties instead of one. I didn't even know this existed until I saw it on the menu board whilst waiting in the drive-thru. They didn't have any already made up, so I had to wait a couple of minutes, but at least I knew it was gonna be fresh.

My verdict? Well, first of all, this thing weighed a TON! I mean, it was a LOT heavier than any other burger I've had at McDonald's before, and if I ever express the desire to ingest another of these culinary train wrecks, please advise me to the contrary. It tasted exactly, and solely like meat. It had tomato sauce, and onion, and cheese, but all of these condiments cowered in the gigantic shadow cast by the great and powerful MEAT flavour. Now, as you know, I'm a fan of meat in general, but I'm also a believer in too much of a good thing, and I'm really not into settling down to a great big fistful of dead cow (or approximation).

I almost didn't finish it, that's how disgusted I was. And I only got the burger, and a medium Coke -- but I'm also no quitter. As I was choking down the last of it, I actually thought to myself "Y'know, this burger wouldn't be so bad, if it only had one meat patty" -- Hello? Genius, they have that! It's called a regular Quarter Pounder, which is probably what you should've ordered, you fucktard!

Anyways, you know how McDonald's sometimes makes you feel like you drank motor oil? Well, today I'm the fucking Exxon Valdez!

For those interested, the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese is the first McDonald's meal that Morgan Spurlock ate in Super Size Me (remember when he threw up out the car door?) It contains 760 calories, and 20 grams of saturated fat -- more than a persons recommended daily intake, in one serve.

Two days of tests, and two nights in hospital on a drip ensured we'd done everything we could to save him, but he was beyond recovery. He was 10.

I know he's just a dog -- and not even a very nice dog -- but he was our dog, and his death hit me like a kick in the nuts. Maybe because despite my best efforts, it was ultimately I who decided his fate. When my family came home, they dealt with the news better than I did a week earlier.

So I've not felt much like blogging lately.

I didn't see them last time, and I've been kicking myself since. So having secured tickets months in advance, I wanted to make sure we had a good spot. Knowing the Forum has a row of booths just beyond the main floor, Nao and I got there deliberately early to nab one.

After a counter meal at the Duke of Wellington, we joined a quickly forming line outside the theatre. Plaid and paisley abounded. A sea of scarves and argyle knee-high socks. Stockings with flat shoes, and peacoats as far as the eye could see.

I was expecting the set list to be saturated with material from the latest album, and while it's a pretty fine album, I wanted to hear them play some old stuff too, but they came through with a fair comprimise, including The State I Am In and my favourite Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying.

The encore began with Stuart nearly breaking his neck climbing atop the decorative architecture beside the stage, which prompted the band to start playing Van Halen's Jump.

Sorry about the crap quality of the video.

All in all, I'd have to say best show I've seen this year. Or last year.

I wanted to stay away somewhere this weekend in order to take advantage of the fact that we'd both managed to get Thursday and Friday off work, and Nao had her heart set on Crown Towers, so that's where we went.

Firstly, I'm not gonna recommend it. I'm sure the suites are exceptional, but the rooms are poky, and while the bed and TV were great, it wasn't the kind of luxury I was lead to believe we were paying for -- I needed the complimentary shoehorn to extricate myself from the tiny spa bath -- not to mention my displeasure with being disturbed by hotel staff no less than 4 times, during our one night stay!

This is what you're paying for -- the view! It did look pretty cool though.

Aside from the room itself, our stay was most enjoyable. We got gussied up and ate a delicious Cantonese dinner at Silks, and then made our way to the casino floor, where Nao promptly threw red wine at me whilst I was still in my finest (that's not fair actually -- she was bumped, and she did apologise profusely -- it's just funnier this way).

A quick trip up to the room, and a change of clothes later, we returned to the casino and dropped a cool fiddy on the Roulette table. I should preface this by saying we'd just witnessed a guy in a tracksuit lose $1000 in 5 minutes, so needless to say, we didn't play on that table.

Our system for the placement of our $50 worth of chips on the Roulette table is what became known as "pissing them about", and after about an hour of doing that Naomi decided to go all in for one last round (well, it was her money after all).

It took me a few seconds to realise that the croupier's little marker thing was sitting ON ONE OF OUR CHIPS (Nao put that one down -- I still officially suck at gambling)! The croupier kindly congratulated Naomi and handed over what can only be described as a shitload of red $5 chips, with a nice little black $100 sweetener chip on top.

You've never seen two people run to the cashier so fast.

I estimated our stack to be about $175, but was quickly corrected when the cashier handed us back $240 in cold hard cash, which went towards a spot of shopping on Friday. You gotta love a 4 day weekend.

If you missed it, don't fret -- there's a matinee at 1:02:03pm this afternoon. Actually, now that I think about it, you probably would've arrived last month, since Americans write the date around the wrong way.

I read an article about them making this game a while ago, about how they got James Caan and Robert Duvall to provide the voices, and somehow secured the late great Marlon Brando (obviously Al Pacino's camp were not so accommodating, as Michael Corleone looks like Italiano Generico). It obviously must've worked on me 'cause not only was I hanging out for it's release, but I bought the 2-Disc Collectors Edition (The second disc is basically a DVD of James Caan fluffing lines -- I know, I'm a marketing company's dream).

As a movie fan, being able to immerse oneself in 1940's New York is pretty fucken cool. The detail is almost perfect, especially in places we got a good look at in the film, like the Italian-American diner in which Sollozzo "The Turk" and Cpt. McCluskey get whacked. Haha... whacked.

With a feature they call MobFace I made my game character look (kinda) like me.

Anyways, so far I'm really enjoying this game, though I read on the internet that finishing the game and becoming Don of NYC is somewhat disappointing, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, eh?

I've become increasingly aware of my gradually deteriorating vision over the last few years, but it's gotten a lot worse in the last six months. Nao and I sat down a few weekends ago to watch Fritz Lang's M (in German, with subtitles), and I couldn't finish reading the lines before they were replaced by those of the next speaker. Fifteen minutes into the film, I resigned to roll over and go to sleep, content for Naomi to tell me the story later.

This in mind, I decided it was high time I went to get my eyes tested. Considering I'm the only member of my immediate family without glasses, I'm surprised it took me this long. The eyetest itself was actually pretty fun (or maybe I'm just easily amused), and I found it remarkable just how much better my vision could get.

This is as near to my uncorrected vision as I could approximate in Photoshop.

Anyway, then I had to pick frames. Nothing I looked at really seemed to suit me (probably because I usually don't wear glasses), and I got a little pissed off with the whole process. Non-commital, I put a couple of pairs on hold, and we went to have a look at a frames place in Collingwood, which I can't recommend. I was really looking for something a bit Graham Coxon-ish, you know, like retro, but I couldn't find anything even remotely close. So eventually we went back to the first place and picked one of the ones I'd originally set aside. It's not really "me" but I figure that's because I'm not used to seeing myself in glasses.

"I think that Quicktime is the most superior movie format on the web."

Everyone keeps telling me "Oh, you'll get used to wearing them eventually", and less than a week into wearing them, I'm hoping they're right, because I'm not loving it. I feel as though I've lost a lot of my peripheral vision, mainly due to the frames, and I feel like I'm only 2 feet off the ground whilst standing. In fact, I feel like Thom Yorke, with my head in a fishbowl.

The good thing is though, that now I can read stuff. Books, magazines, emails, subtitles, street signs, number plates, the lot. So, despite my whingeing, the pros still outweigh the cons.

Mainly, 3RRR, but also (despite the youth and unprofessionalism of it's announcers) Syn 90.7 FM. Monday nights on Syn they do a show called Discography, hosted by these two dorks and they basically go through highlights of a bands entire discography (are you getting a feel for where the name came from?) and talk shit about it.

Last night was the first time I'd heard the show, and I probably liked it a bit more than I should've because the band they were playing was my beloved Who. A little bit patronising for the established fan, especially coming from a couple of upstarts [see: two dorks (above)], but nonetheless enjoyable. I started listening on the drive back from Naomi's, but then when I got home, I put the radio on (jeez, I was a bit keen, wasn't I?).

Alls I can say is, something funny had better happen to me soon, 'cause these posts are getting really crap. What do you listen to on the radio?
